Plugged it into port and connected USB end to dash cam & it immediately turned on. I’ve had it installed for about 4 days now and so far so good. Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “My previous Rove dash cam lasted about 5 years, and it was a hard 5 years for it. I only used the window suction cup thing to attach to the windshield so it wasn’t “permanent,” and it was always flying off, rightfully so, when it was too hot/cold/bumpy… so it took a LOT of abuse, smashing against my doors/dash. I was content with how long it lasted – I don’t expect any tech devices to last longer than 5 years at this point. Given I had a good experience with that one, I decided to upgrade to a new Rove dash cam.Enter the Rove R2-4K Dual. I figured it would be cool to have the rear view as well this time around. Picture is nice, setup is very quick and easy. The app is definitely an improvement over the last one on my older Rove dash cam. The price point is great for someone looking to get a decent quality dash cam for some added protection.I started having issues with screen flashing and then startup issues, where it wouldn’t load the picture and just get stuck on the home/loading screen with the Rove logo. It was spotty and fixed itself, so I just kept chugging along. After a few months, it was a daily occurrence… the troubleshooting I found online didn’t fix it, so I reached out to Rove. The customer support was very quick to respond, very thorough, and very easy to troubleshoot with. I did everything they asked, but was still having issues. Since it was most likely an internal issue, they replaced my unit with a new one! I appreciate the responsiveness of the support team, and the fact that they stand by their product means a lot.Even though I had an issue, I would still recommend this product. Manufacturing issues happen. Software issues happen. Hardware issues happen. That’s just life with all of our disposable gadgets… BUT I give Rove a lot of credit for providing the support that they do and for standing behind their product to resolve issues like this. I have had zero issues so far with the new unit, and hopefully we stay that way! I haven’t experienced any flashing or startup issues, so I think this one is good to go. There would have been signs by now.”

Customer Review: “Great camera, easy to install and easy to use. Plenty of cable to run both cameras front and back then to power source. My turns on automatically when I open the door and starts recording. The only flaw in my opinion is that you can only turn ALL visible icons are leave them ALL on, you can’t pick and chose. I would like to only have the speed and the directional compass on and turn everything else.. but that’s just me. I would also like to have the ability to view, download videos remotely buts that not an option. This can only be done when your with about 10 feet of the car and it’s turn on.”

Pros and Cons

  • Plug-and-play operation requires no configuration
  • Compact form factor saves space
Cons:
  • Limited smartphone integration
  • Basic image stabilization struggles with rough roads
  • No GPS or WiFi capabilities

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “I really like the simplicity of this device. The point is to record if you get in an accident in that case, I don’t want a bunch of Wi-Fi or other features I just wanted to record in case I ever need to take the card out and use it for evidence. The instructions are a bit hard to understand, but I really like the device. Have not used it yet for a long time, but I like it so far.”

Customer Review: “STOP DO NOT BUY! It doesn’t work!! I tried reading everything they sent me, it was not very much. Then I watched two videos they said would help. What waste of time!! You have to start the camera EVERY TIME you turn on your car!😠”

  • Regular firmware updates improve functionality
Cons:
  • Requires compatible SD card (not included)
  • Touchscreen interface occasionally unresponsive

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “We purchased the F7N Redtiger camera about 18 months ago and it has now paid for itself 100x over when it provided evidence to the police and insurance that my wife was not the one at fault in an accident that totaled her vehicle and the other party lied to the police. My wife was going to get the ticket after the officer talked to the other party first, but she was able to show the officer the cam video and they reversed course and issued the ticket to the other party. Then the other party lied to their insurance, but after providing the video to their insurance, the adjuster immediately accepted 100% responsibility.Easy to install and with clearly written English instructions. Great suction cup with integrated GPS antenna makes installation a breeze. Cam will slide off mount if you want to hide it while parked without removing the entire mount. Crystal clear video, front at 4k and back at 2k, produce high resolution video where you can read license plates and even identify who was driving another vehicle.Even more importantly, it has a good app that you can use to directly download video from the cam without pulling the card and taking it to a computer. Just in case you are in an accident, you can instantly download the relevant video to your phone and show to Law Enforcement and e-mail to your insurance company. This is hugely important so a ticket can be issued to the at-fault party on scene as my wife did. If you can’t show the officer when writing the report, they may issue the ticket to the wrong party or no one if they can’t figure out who was at fault. If this happens, it’s a long up-hill battle to get the other party’s insurance to pay out and the police will never cancel an incorrectly issued ticket, so it forces you to go to court to defend yourself. If you are in a serious accident (if anyone goes to the hospital, it’s serious), the officer may confiscate the SD card or even the whole camera for evidence. You may not get it back for weeks or even months. Sometimes they get lost an then you have nothing. Have a copy safely on your phone so you can give it to your insurance company and lawyer immediately!Buy the REDTIGER F7N Dash Cam Hardwire Kit to go with it if you want 24/7 monitoring without killing your car battery. Never wonder who backed into you in a parking lot or keyed your car if it happens to you. Some things that set Redtiger apart from the others:They actually have tech support. We had an issue with one camera not liking our SD card and contacted support to see if we had a bum Cam or bad setting as the issue was intermittent. Turns out it was just a faulty card after running a write test on the computer. Not a big issue as SD cards are cheap, but good to know that if you have an issue that Redtiger does support what they sell.Software updates. We’ve owned the F7N for about 18 months and have received software updates to improve functionality. The cam was great when we got it and even better now with new features added.Proof in the pudding:We liked our F7N so much we just bought another Redtiger cam, a F7N Touch, for a new (to us) vehicle and it’s great too.Note: I wasn’t paid for this review nor given a demo unit or anything else. I’m only a satisfied customer that is enjoying the premium quality and features at a great price vs the big-name competitors and their high prices.”

Customer Review: “For me not knowing what dashcam to get, I think this was a great choice. The small capacity SD card is a letdown but for what you’re paying, it works great. Not cheap, not overpriced. It has come in handy quite a few times. Easy plug in and just suction mount to the window. Great video quality too, it helped my local police locate a stolen vehicle. And no need to worry if you live in cold areas cause it got down to -20°F here and the camera had no issues.”

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “The media could not be loaded. This REDTIGER F17 3-channel dash cam is exactly what I was looking for. The front, interior, and rear cameras all have great video quality — super clear during the day and still very usable at night. Being able to cover every angle gives a lot of peace of mind, especially for work and daily driving.Install was pretty straightforward, and everything you need is included. The wiring took a little time to run clean, but once it’s set up, it looks great and works flawlessly.I also like the wide-angle coverage and how easy it is to review footage. The system runs smooth and starts recording automatically every time I start the truck.Overall, this is a solid, reliable dash cam setup for the price. If you want full coverage and good quality, this is definitely worth it!”

Customer Review: “I love this dash cam! I bought one in 2024 and gave it to my mom when we both got new cars. I tried others dash cams and all were returned for various reasons and finally I said “what was I thinking?? This one was great!” (Doesn’t have touchscreen or voice control but honestly not really missing much with those)Installation: very easy to install by yourself. You do not need to go to a shop or have a lot of car knowledge or experience. If you have a friend to help, all the better so you can have them hold the front camera as you place the rear 😊. Super fast to install. Now, a few things that make the difference between this dash cam and others:*3 channels with loop recoding donations up to 5 minutes. All cameras record simultaneously (unless you turn the inside off then only back and front) and can do single view or split screen. If you don’t want the inside camera on you can go into the settings and turn it off. Love the inside camera when I have my friends kids in the car or my nephews so I can watch them and also a deterrent to them acting up knowing they are on camera*all 3 cameras are super clear!! Even if you are driving into the rising or setting Sun, it won’t mess up the recording. Back cam is great for additional backup camera as well as seeing who is riding your bumper. Inside is great if you have kids or want to record a fun trip with friends or an important conversation (those who know know what I mean)*Records speed as well as date and time stamp: great if you need that to help you out of a ticket. Also has built-in GPS. All this records without it blocking the screen with numbers and symbols (wifi symbol, mic, memory card, speed, time…) unless you watch the recording and it is a small text on the bottom. I have tried others where it doesn’t go away, numbers and symbols an over the screen and you can’t see squat.*Screensaver: this just turns the screen off after the set amount of time. You can’t change it in the settings or if you don’t want the screen turning off during the day but do at night you can just touch the power button on the side (don’t hold it) and the screen turns off but cameras stay on. I don’t drive too much at night but when I do it is a great feature so you don’t have additional light interference while driving. Others I have tried did not have that feature. Had to go into settings each time to change it.*G-Sensor: not too sensitive like a lot of others (hit a pebble and it locks the even like an accident). The sensitivity can be adjusted in the settings, I keep mine on low so it doesn’t go off when I go over bumps. Most of us don’t live on pristine roads and having a sensor that goes off from railroad tracks to manhole covers to a dip in the road…turning it off is pointless, you want this feature if you get into an accident so it won’t be recorded over if the memory card runs out of space.*IR and nighttime: this isn’t the worlds best BUT unless you want to spend $300-$500 it won’t be. It is really good! At night I can get a great view of what is behind me, not a lot of glare, also great for an additional backup camera at night and in bad weather. Inside camera at night works really well. I originally had it in a 3 row Pilot and could see into the 3rd row without an issue at all.* Parking safety: starts recording if someone leans on your car, taps it or breaks in (don’t use that bc you need another part to have that work but great to have the option of you are worried about where you are leaving your car)*Volume: can turn the mic off so you aren’t recording all conversations (or your VERY off key singing haha)The App: I don’t really use it bc my phone connects to my car via Bluetooth and having to switch back and forth and then I don’t have my hands free capabilities. It does help when installing the cameras to make sure the positions are exactly where you want them before sticking them on the glass. It is also nice to have so you can download videos from the camera right to the app so they don’t get recorded over and you don’t have to take the card out. And you have them stored if you ever need them for other reasons say court for tickets or accident reports.Seriously, I have recommended this camera to a lot of friends and other family members. I would not have put one in my mother’s car if I didn’t trust this camera!!!”

Complete Buying Guide for Automatic Dash Cam Redaction Tools

Essential Factors We Consider

When evaluating automatic dash cam redaction tools for municipal use, we prioritize **AI accuracy**, **integration capabilities**, and **scalability**. Key considerations include the system’s ability to distinguish between protected individuals (officers) and private citizens, compliance with HIPAA/FERPA-like regulations, and seamless compatibility with existing body-worn cameras and fleet management platforms. Additionally, processing speed matters—municipalities need tools that can redact hours of footage within minutes, not hours.

Budget Planning

Start by assessing your current video volume and growth projections. Entry-level kits ($50–$100) suffice for small fleets, while enterprise solutions ($500+) offer batch processing, API access, and dedicated support. Factor in ongoing costs: cloud storage subscriptions, software licensing renewals, and potential hardware upgrades. Many vendors provide tiered pricing based on monthly footage processed, so negotiate flexible contracts aligned with seasonal patrol fluctuations.

Final Thoughts

Investing in robust automatic redaction technology isn’t just about compliance—it’s about building public trust through responsible data handling. Look for vendors offering transparent algorithms, audit trails, and customizable redaction rules tailored to your jurisdiction’s legal requirements. The right solution will evolve with your needs, adapting to new privacy laws and emerging threats like deepfake manipulation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How accurate are AI-powered redaction tools for identifying faces and license plates?

A: Modern systems achieve >95% accuracy in detecting human faces and license plates under normal lighting conditions, though performance may decline in poor visibility or crowded scenes. Always include a human review step for high-stakes footage before release.

Q: Can these tools redact audio conversations containing personal information?

A: Yes, advanced platforms offer speech-to-text transcription followed by keyword filtering or voice masking to protect identities in audio tracks accompanying video files.

Q: Are there open-source alternatives for municipalities with limited IT budgets?

A: While open-source options exist (like OpenCV-based frameworks), they typically lack enterprise support and require significant customization. Commercial solutions often provide better ROI through reduced labor costs and regulatory compliance assurance.

Q: Do federal or state laws mandate specific redaction standards for police footage?

A: Requirements vary by locality. Some states (e.g., California’s AB 748) specify timelines for releasing body cam footage post-incident, while others emphasize protecting victims’ identities. Consult local legal counsel to determine applicable standards.

Q: How frequently should redaction software receive updates?

A: Aim for quarterly updates at minimum. Vendors regularly enhance recognition algorithms to counter adversarial attacks (e.g., sunglasses, hats) and comply with evolving privacy legislation.

In conclusion, selecting the right automatic dash cam redaction tool empowers municipalities to balance transparency with privacy—protecting both the public and officers while streamlining administrative workflows. Whether you’re equipping a single cruiser or managing a city-wide fleet, prioritize solutions that combine cutting-edge AI with practical usability. Start by piloting one or two models in select units, gather feedback from field operators, and scale gradually. Remember, the goal isn’t just to redact footage—it’s to foster accountability, strengthen community relationships, and ensure every interaction is documented fairly and respectfully.
