If you jiggle it hard enough, it can pop off the holder, so you might need to put something in the hole with it, but it is simply fixable. Owning one is definitely worthwhile. This camera can really give you peace of mind knowing you can always keep track of your vehicle. You can open the app and view live 1080p footage from your cameras at any time.Everything was packaged really nicely and it arrived safe and sound. It was very quick and easy to set up. Being powered by the OBD made installation a breeze and keeps it powered at all times. After you download the app and pair the camera with your phone, you are good to go.When someone comes close to your vehicle the radar detects it and sends an alert to your phone. That allows you to view the camera in live time to see if there is a threat to your vehicle. The radar reaches a good distance and will easily pick up somebody walking close to your vehicle. If something touches your vehicle you will get a vehicle vibration alert also. The vibration alert is very sensitive. I was sitting in the vehicle and turned the radio up. I got an alert because the speakers set off the sensor. The cameras record everything and uploads it to the cloud so even if something happens to your camera, you still have access to the footage. The camera has really good footage at night. You can see everything inside and outside of the vehicle very clearly. The inside camera has very good coverage of the entire inside of the vehicle. The view screen is small and provides some detail. Users will see much more detail when recorded footage is downloaded to a phone or a computer.The 170° wide-angle 4K (25 fps) dashcam lens captures detail in daylight and nighttime but lacks optical image stabilization. When your vehicle is stopped at a traffic light, the dashcam can capture license plates from a distance of half a car’s length. This is also ideal when parked in a parking lot. The rear 1080p (60 fps) camera captures sufficient detail in daylight and at night.However, when your vehicle is in motion, the dash cam turns oncoming licence plates into an indistinguishable blur. Minus the licence plate issue, your surroundings are captured in stunning detail. If an incident occurs, this dash cam will record it.A minor nitpick is that a green LED on the left side of the device blinks while recording. I covered the LED with a small piece of black electrical tape. The dash cam alerts users (by computerized voice) that it still records when the viewscreen turns off. When the adapter is plugged into an outlet that provides constant power, this will drain the vehicle battery over time. The hard wire kit resolves this problem.There are two options available. The first option is a kit that hard-wires the dash cam to your vehicle’s fuse panel. This allows the dash cam to go into parking/sentry mode. Plug the adapter in, set the switch to the desired mode and that’s it. The OBD II adapter has a switch that selects two modes. The first mode keeps the dashcam on while driving and turns the dashcam off after five minutes when the car is shut off.The second mode puts the dashcam in parking/sentry mode. When your vehicle is turned off, the dashcam continues to record. The Botslab app can adjust how much time is allowed for recording. I also like the physical design of the camera as it has a very slim profile and doesn’t look like an everyday digital camera was mounted to the windshield. It looks like a proper dash cam.Getting the camera operational is very simple. Hiding the wiring through the car can take some work and will depend on your make and model. It was the first time for me to try something like this and I have to admit it was a bit challenging. I did not install the rear camera (yet). I like the electrostatic film solution for mounting the camera, but I still don’t really like the visible white square from the outside.Video quality of the front camera is pretty decent. The 4K resolution gives a very clear picture and it’s surprisingly good at night. License plates can generally be made out for the cars directly in front and about a two cars ahead.The driving assistance is a neat feature but I’m not sure if I will keep it on. If you spend the time to align it all properly, it again works surprisingly well. However, I’m not sure I like having it on. Between the GPS and the dash cam, I just don’t like my car talking too much even with the sensitivities turned down. However, I also have young drivers in the household so I appreciate it helping to keep them in check!The menu system on the camera is also pretty good being intuitive to control and access with the responsive buttons.Without an additional kit, the camera will not remain powered when the car is turned off. This is required if you want to use the parking monitor feature but it also means that means you can’t communicate with the device (ie. to transfer videos) if the car isn’t running. I haven’t tried removing the SD card (included with the kit – nice!) to read it directly.Good to know the camera uses a super capacitor instead of a normal battery — it should be able to better handle both our hot summer days and our crazy cold Canadian winter days.I’m of the belief that most dash cams aren’t that great.
